These are dark times we have been living through, the last couple of years and now more than ever with the war in Ukraine, and the virus hanging on even thought mandates have been eased. There is no sense of freedom, no feeling of being in control. Just trapped by it all. These paintings are dark, without colour, and the imagery represents a breaking out, a dash for freedom, tearing down the fences, using bolt cutters to get out into some open space. There is a grid in each piece. A cell. A cage. A trap. And what happens in each piece happens when the trap has been sprung and the mind and heart are set free.
